Less awkwardness! (And hopefully for the last time!)

After several months of insisting I just leave fated souls in the state I last revised it in- I've caved and went back and fixed what will hopefully be the last of the inconsistencies and poorly aged things! Of course, it's still far from perfect- Fated souls is my first full, serious book after all, and nothing can change the fact I'm simply better at writing than I was back in 2023. It's still a bit of an awkward read at times, but at least now it's nothing unreasonable or too confusing.
This is not the first time I did this, last time is when I created the 'tatzelworks' edition that was prioritized on my site (since for a while I was fine with keeping the original, first uploaded version up- I am confident in showing that no longer!!), which was mainly removing some particularly embarrassing, confusing, or just dumb typos, sentences and paragraphs here and there + something from before the major plot overhaul I did that somehow snuck past me.
Main changes this time include:
- Two illustrations have been adjusted to fix the fact Neowise did not have his tail. Neowise's design after fated was updated to include a tail, and it's since become one of his most defining features, I've fully retconned him not having it in this book and finally fixed the drawings where he clearly doesn't have it. Also successfully resisted the urge to redraw every illustration again (especially the one for chapter 1. God I hate that one. Did you know that's actually my least favourite drawing I've ever done?)
- Changed the illustration for chapter 9 back to an earlier, better composed version it since it was irreparably inaccurate at this point, and when I remade it back in 2024 I was trying too hard to be scary. This does make it so his jacket looks very slightly different (since this version of the drawing was before I redesigned his outfit), and he no longer has it open like he usually does but honestly that's a non issue. He can have his jacket buttoned up if he wants- the cool ocean breeze in Uniacke can make you chilly any time of year.
- Some small adjustments to the prologue + chapter 1 to avoid unnecessary reader confusion/conflicts with current lore since I realized even given a new context later on, some of it still feels dreadfully outdated. Also removed a particularly odd choice of words and made the date ranges given to the reader at two parts significantly more reasonable. Note to past self: Bigger number doesn't equal cooler, it equals bizarre and confusing thing that trips up the reader's sense of scale.
- Changed the about the author section at the end to have an up to date version of my sona as well as a real about the author paragraph since whatever 2024 me was doing was getting a bit too eye roll worthy. Also went ahead and fixed this at the end of book 2 as well.
- Made the Macapen siblings' encounter with Amelia and Richard + what they overheard them talking about make more sense
And most importantly:
- Added the word 'easily' to one sentence so it flows slightly better.
Hopefully this stays the last time I've had to update this book, and I don't notice anything else insanely outdated when I read it to a family member. There's still ought to be plenty of typos hidden in there but between my ADHD making me skim over words an annoying amount and libreoffice not picking up every mistake, I don't think I'm bound to defeat them anytime soon.
